Emission impossible? Decarbonising business models for sustainable growth
January 16th
Business models are in desperate need of a makeover. The ‘take, make, waste’ business model is out of fashion. Incremental touch-ups won’t take companies far enough, fast enough.
Many companies have already reaped the benefits of the low-hanging, profitable, investments. But complete decarbonisation of the economy requires a full-scale transformation and reinvention of business models. It demands businesses to account for the risk and cost of carbon in their governance, operations and finance. It requires shifting to circular and regenerative products and services. And it calls for navigating the challenges of emissions reduction across the entire value chain. Talk of circular economies is cheap. But is full-scale business model transformation from ‘make, take, waste’ to ‘circulate and regenerate’ even possible?
This event explored how companies can engage in strategic business transformation to move from net-zero pledges and targets to implementation.
