Our mission to restore Annojiguda lake and its surroundings through a community-driven cleaning drive
The Annojiguda lake in Hyderabad, which is located next to a busy highway and surrounded by a residential neighborhood, confronts a two-pronged challenge. The lake suffered from polluted waters choked by sewage and a growing pile of garbage accumulating around its banks has been neglected for a long time. The local authority approached the CSR team of Hyderabad DC Infosys to address the lake's immediate condition. Our dedicated volunteers with the support of the local municipality have breathed new life into the waterbody. They understood the importance of immediate intervention and tackled the visible problem – cleaning the lake's surroundings and empowering the neighborhood.
The Lake Cleaning Drive began at 7am with the team of 15 volunteers, demonstrating a strong commitment to environmental improvement. Through their enthusiastic efforts, by the end of the day two truckloads of garbage and sewage waste were collected and removed, which contributed significantly to creating a healthier ecosystem for the lake itself.
The Lake Cleaning Drive served as a strong symbol of community engagement. Our volunteers working together with the municipality team fostered a sense of shared responsibility for the environment. It sparked conversations amongst residents about the importance of environmental issues and the power of local action. Reclaiming Annojiguda Lake wasn't just about cleaning a waterbody; it was about reclaiming a vital ecosystem for the future. The initiative laid the groundwork for a more sustainable community.
