Infosys Research: 77% of Telecom Industry Executives Report Effective Cloud Migration
Infosys has released its new industry analysis Cloud Radar: Telecom Industry Report, which explores cloud use in the telecommunications industry, revealing telecom companies are set to increase cloud spending in the coming year. The study, which surveyed over 400 respondents from telecom companies, found that telecom companies depend on cloud for the deployment of new services, scalability, growth, and technology transformation.
The report builds on Infosys’ previous Cloud Radar 2023 report, enriching insights through specialized research of industry practitioners, executives and subject matter experts globally. This deeper look into the telecom industry identifies how cloud is particularly valuable for 5G deployment and offering new services, such as the internet of things, machine-to-machine communication, and robotics. Cloud is critical for the telecom ecosystem of service providers, partners, and end-users to enable service agility, innovation, and global reach.
The Cloud Radar: Telecom Industry Report identifies the following key findings:
- 77% of telecom executives say cloud migration efforts are very effective or extremely effective. 73% of business leaders across all industries agree that cloud migration efforts have been effective. Telecom executives interviewed said moving to cloud has helped them to save money, scale platforms more readily and enable new capabilities. These new capabilities include cloud native functions that incorporate microservices, continuous integration and dynamic orchestration.
- Telecommunications companies surveyed spend $32 million annually for cloud, nearly matching the overall average of $33 million. This reflects only spending on cloud services, with additional investment in infrastructure upgrades for telecom companies to maximize cloud platform utilization.
- Telecom companies aren’t using all the cloud that they have already provisioned. Our survey found that telecom companies have consumed only 48% of the cloud they have committed to.
- Telecom providers are increasingly adopting multi-cloud strategies to deliver 5G services efficiently and meet evolving consumer needs. The multi-cloud approach also ensures compliance with local regulations and enables secure service delivery
- 45% of telecom respondents allow any department head or IT manager to deploy new cloud infrastructure, software, or applications, signaling an all-to-lax approach from a security perspective.
- 44% of critical cloud decisions are made in isolation. Cloud saturates every corner of the corporate enterprise, decisions about cloud should involve leaders, technologists and users.
