Pitching in to 'Clean India'
Seven-year-old Sneha loves going to school in Bhubaneswar. At school, she gets the much-needed midday meal, and now, she’s going to be even more comfortable in the school premises – her school is one of the 110 schools in which Infosys Foundation is building toilets in collaboration with the Odisha government.
On a mission
With a population of 1.25 billion and counting, India’s social and civic problems are always in need of intervention from governments, communities and corporates. But it is only with active involvement at the individual level that real difference can be made.
By providing our employees with ecosystems that will help them explore their passion in areas beyond work, we encourage them to be ambassadors of a sustainable world and increase individual commitment to community welfare.
Our role in ‘Clean India’
Over 1,000 Infosys volunteers are working on the Clean India campaign.
Clean India, officially launched by Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, on October 2, 2014, aims to realize the vision of a ‘Clean India’ by October 2, 2019, the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
Infosys has pitched in with 1,000 volunteers for the initiative.
In Bangalore, our volunteers are working with the local community to create awareness about the importance of garbage segregation so that bio-degradable waste does not reach landfills. Our Bhubaneswar volunteers are working with the local community to improve sanitation and hygiene. In Hyderabad, Chennai and Pune, volunteers have been conducting cleaning drives in several parts of the city.

Over 200 volunteers from Infosys Bhubaneswar participated in a cleanliness drive that involved local communities around the campus. Sudha Murty, Chairperson of the Infosys Foundation, also participated in the drive.
Around 20 volunteers from Infosys Bangalore worked with 16 government-run schools to create awareness about the need for maintaining hygiene and segregating waste at source. Their effort now is to integrate these sessions with the academic syllabus.
A cleanliness drive was held in the Begur lake area of Bangalore where volunteers collected plastic and other trash around the lake.
Our employee volunteers are ushering in change – lending a hand to help clean up our surroundings and also educating and sensitizing schoolchildren to ensure long term success and sustainability of the Clean India initiative.
