This summer, I had a once in a lifetime opportunity to have an all-expense paid internship in Bangalore, India, with one of the top IT companies in the world, Infosys. Even before I arrived to India, I was given contact information to a coordinator from the InStep team to answer all of my questions and ensured smooth pre-arrival experience. My project was to work with the consulting unit to design a software that could predict unexpected hospital visits of patients with chronic diseases. Throughout my project, I was placed on a team with members with different tech backgrounds to assist me in completing the project. I was able to successfully complete and present my project to the head of the consulting unit at Infosys. The InStep program enabled me to gain skills and experiences to share with future employers.
Overall, the Infosys InStep experience was amazing. I enjoyed learning about Indian culture, traveling to different cities, and meeting friends from around the world. The InStep team planned many events for the interns and celebrated each intern’s birthday if it fell during their stay in India. They also celebrated each country's independence day which is so unique and thoughtful. When I came home from India, I felt I came back more culturally aware. Even though months have gone by since I have left India, I still miss it every day. Infosys InStep has allowed me to grow personally as well as within my career. I would do it again in a heartbeat.
