Tony Baird

CTO, Vodafone NZ

Tony became Technology Director in 2014 after four years as the Head of Networks, having joined Vodafone NZ in 2010. Tony is responsible for Vodafone’s leading fixed and mobile Networks, delivery and performance of the IT systems and Enterprise solutions and managing the capital investment programmes.

Prior to Vodafone NZ Tony was Chief Executive Officer of Farmside NZ Limited and Baycity Limited, and the CEO of Eaton Corporation plc. He was also on the foundation board of Kordia Ltd including Chairman of the risk committee. On returning to New Zealand Tony was the Director of Networks for TelstraSaturn Ltd and was instrumental in their initial network and cable TV builds across New Zealand.

Tony has over twenty five years’ experience in the Telecommunications industry commencing in the UK in Research and Development and spending15 years overseas with companies including Alcatel UK and Nortel Networks NZ Ltd where he became Vice President of Wireless R&D.

Tony holds a Bachelor of Electronics Engineering majoring in communications and control from Auckland University.
