Chief Information Officer, Los Angeles Unified School District

As a 30 year veteran of Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), Mr. Khazei’s career has spanned four District divisions, providing him with a solid foundation in business and public sector operations and an understanding of the nuances of the educational environment. As Chief Information Officer of LAUSD, Mr. Khazei oversees one of the nation’s largest and most complex computing environments – spanning over 720 square miles and 1,100 disparate school sites and offices and serving over one million users.

Mr. Khazei’s oversight includes, an IT Administrative Services group that manages the division’s $504 million budget, human resources services for over 700 employees and contracts for various technical services and solutions; an Enterprise Applications group that supports over 250 applications to meet the District’s pedagogical and business needs; a Network Operations group that provides WiFi and wired services across the District through management of over 130,000 network devices;

an IT Infrastructure group that manages two data centers; a Telecommunications group that maintains telephone services for all District sites; and a Customer Services group that provides helpdesk and field services district wide.

In his spare time, Shahryar serves as a member of the Counsel of Great City Schools’(CGCS) Technology Review panel. The panel performs peer reviews on sister school districts’ technological infrastructures to identify unexploited opportunities, solve problems and improve operations. CGCS is a non-profit organization devoted to the advancement of urban public schools.

Shahryar holds Bachelor’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the Washington State University.
