TED

Lisa Choi Owens is the Chief Revenue Officer and Head of Global Partnerships for TED. TED is a non-profit committed to engaging with the world’s most inspired thinkers to share ideas worth spreading. Lisa is responsible for assuring that TED continues to grow its reach and impact as a global media platform through strategic partnerships with mission-aligned organizations around the world. Her mandate is to collaborate with companies to discover and curate the best ideas to share both within their organization’s own ecosystem and to the TED community at large.

Prior to TED, Lisa was co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of Ulive, an internally funded start-up inside of Scripps Networks Interactive. Ulive is a premium lifestyle video portal and distribution network of over 100+ publishers that aggregates the best lifestyle content. As COO, Lisa oversaw operations for Ulive extending Scripps’ reach from its core lifestyle business.

Before founding Ulive, Lisa joined Scripps in 2008 as the Senior Vice President and General Manager of Digital Media for Scripps. Her responsibilities included category-leading websites FoodNetwork.com, HGTV.com and TravelChannel.com as well as other digital initiatives in social, mobile, video syndication and other emerging media. She was responsible for setting digital strategy and identifying and growing revenue opportunities on all digital platforms.

Prior to joining Scripps, Owens served as Vice President of New Media business development for AMC Networks where she identified and negotiated deals with online and mobile partners, and developed the brand’s multiplatform strategy. She also held strategic marketing roles with wireless software company Aether Systems and the lifestyle media company, XO Group Inc (formerly known as The Knot).

Owens holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley. She is a strategic advisor to Preeline, an e-commerce and predictive technologies company, and Good Amplified, the multi-channel YouTube network exclusively helping nonprofits build and engage with communities. She is a graduate of the Women in Cable Telecommunications’ (WICT) Betsy Magness Leadership Institute and served on the Online Publisher Association (OPA) and National Association for Multi-Ethnicity in Communications (NAMIC) board of directors.
