The Power Grid Just Got Smarter with GIS

A Geographic Information System (GIS) is a prerequisite for a smart grid. In an article published in Utility Automation & Engineering T&D, Infosys’ experts advocate an enterprise-wide GIS to address the challenges of work and asset management.

Infosys believes that GIS is the ‘single source of truth’ for a seamless flow of information. GIS technology serves as the interface for business applications across the enterprise, ensuring a single source of data residing in different locations.

GIS delivers benefits across the enterprise. For instance, GIS enables the mash up of an Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) system and a Customer Information System (CIS) to provide efficient work and asset management, and geo-spatial intelligence.

GIS increases asset uptime, reduces outage duration, streamlines the supply chain, reduces spare part inventory, improves workforce utilization and productivity, and achieves regulatory compliance.
